Metallica will air a pre-filmed concert at drive-ins cross the US and Canada on August 29 as part of the Encore Drive-In Nights series.
It will be the band’s first show of 2020 and they will record it at an undisclosed location near their Northern California home.
Tickets to the Encore Drive-In Nights gig cost US$115 ($165) per carload, which admits up to six people.
Metallica’s show follows successful drive-in shows from Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton.
Venues will adhere to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines, including outfitting staff with personal protective equipment and maintaining at least 1.8 metres between cars.
It will mark the band’s first performance since they partnered with the San Francisco Symphony last September to record their S&M2 concerts across two sold-out nights at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Three Days Grace are the opening band.
Every ticket purchase will include four digital downloads of Metallica’s S&M2.
Tickets for Encore Drive-In Nights featuring Metallica go on sale August 14 at 12pm local venue time.
